Pictured below are the 13 paintings by local Elmore artist Henry Frank Dischinger.  Dischinger was born August 17, 1841 in Kirchfen, Anit Straufen, Baden, Germany.  He came to America in 1855, settling in Port Clinton, Ohio.  He was apprenticed at 14 years of age to a buggy works in Elmore as a varnisher.  He later moved up to painting decoration and striping leafing of carriages.  He became known for his craftsmanship in painting business signs and  stage scenery (many of the drop curtains from the Elmore Opera House). Dischinger dabbled in fine art, but not for profit.  He produced fine oil paintings for fifty-four years, amassing a collection of 300 canvases. He was also involved as inspector for the Ottawa County Courthouse paintings in 1908.  He passed away in Elmore on October 6, 1917.

The Bennett Art Gallery in Toledo, Ohio conducted a sale of Dischingers paintings in 1966--selling 100 canvases in their original frames.  All were signed and dated, beginning in 1863.  A few of these paintings made it to the Hunting Bank in Elmore, Ohio and are now in the hands of the Elmore Historical Society.
